Blue Ridge Dermatology Associates, P.A. is pleased to announce the addition of a Mohs surgeon to our practice.

Douglas Atmatzidis, MD is a fellowship-trained, board-certified Mohs surgeon born and raised in New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and then graduated at the top of his class from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. As a medical student, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society and awarded the Jacob Bleiberg Award for excellence in Dermatology. Dr. Atmatzidis completed his dermatology residency at Stony Brook University, where he was selected by the faculty to serve as the sole Chief Resident during his final year. His time during residency also included training with internationally renowned experts in the use of dermatoscopes (handheld non-invasive tools to better analyze skin conditions). He subsequently completed a competitive fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology where he received advanced training in Mohs micrographic surgery and complex reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Atmatzidis believes in a collaborative approach to bring about optimal outcomes, which involves shared decision-making to tailor care to patients’ individual needs and goals.

Dr. Atmatzidis moved to North Carolina to be closer to family and is excited to serve his community. In addition to spending time with his wife and son, he enjoys playing soccer, cooking, and watching comedy and action movies.
